A&A Safety: Advocating for Stronger Work Zone Protections in Ohio

A&A Safety is actively supporting Ohio House Bill 82, legislation designed to deliver stronger protections for roadway workers and law enforcement personnel operating in construction zones. This bill represents a significant step forward in reducing injuries, improving driver accountability, and creating safer environments for all roadway users.

Strengthening Safety Through HB 82

A&A Safety Inc. is committed to industry leadership in roadway safety, and our support for Ohio House Bill 82 reflects that commitment. HB 82, now under committee review, is designed to provide meaningful improvements to safety and enforcement practices in active work zones across the state. We encourage all Ohio residents and stakeholders to contact their legislators to support this commonsense legislation.

Key provisions of HB 82 include:

  • Increased fines for traffic violations in work zones, reinforcing responsible driving behavior.
  • A new reckless operation offense with enhanced penalties for injuring roadway workers.
  • A revised definition of a work zone, extending protections from the first warning sign to the last.
  • An education-based alternative to fines for certain violations, allowing drivers to complete a work zone safety course modeled after Ohio’s distracted driving program.

HB 82 sponsors include Representatives Gary Click (R-Vickery) and Mark Johnson (R-Chillicothe), with Committee Chair Cindy Abrams (R-Harrison) providing leadership and Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) offering additional support.

A&A Safety’s Advocacy Role

A&A Safety associates Bill Luttmer, Samantha Rosenberger, and Tim Racer have taken an active role in legislative advocacy efforts, participating in statewide advocacy days with support from ATTSA. Bill Luttmer, currently Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Ohio Contractors Association, and our dedicated safety professionals believe HB 82 will significantly reduce the risk of injuries and fatalities among construction workers and law enforcement personnel present on job sites.

A&A Safety will continue to champion initiatives that elevate industry standards and protect the people who build and maintain Ohio’s infrastructure.
